Until next week ...

Our family lives on two continents, but for ten glorious days we are together in Norway, the country where I was born. I've been an unapologetic tourist these ten days, making up for all the times that my visits were shaped by family obligations. Sadly, that whole generation is now gone, which added a bittersweet tinge to my feelings about being back, but (thank goodness) we were able to spend some time this evening with someone from the next generation!

My point at the moment is that, after all these stimulating experiences, along with a certain amount of unrequited nostalgia (the ways Norway has changed since the "wooden Norway" of my childhood), I don't have two neurons to rub together. So I will write again next week with a little more energy.

In the meantime, some photo highlights:

Almost all my favorite Edvard Munch paintings in one room! (At the National Museum.)
Overlooking Flåm.
Thor Heyerdahl's raft that defied conventional wisdom.
Fjords up close...
... with good gear.
